EMERGENCY DENTIST – CALL NOW FOR IMMEDIATE APPOINTMENT
What Determines a Dental Emergency?
Dental emergencies can happen anytime, whether it impacts your mouth, teeth or gums. Below are some common types of dental emergencies that may happen to you that must be fixed immediately. Dr. Ash is an emergency dentist that caters to the Los Angeles County area, and is on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week ready to suit your needs. He is highly adept in dealing with high-stress level procedures, and his team has many years of experience in the emergency dental industry.
Uncertain if it is a dental emergency? See this guide below!
- Tooth aches: Have you been hit in the mouth or face? Do you see signs of swelling? Broken teeth, cavities, and fillings are many causes of tooth pains. Do not ignore toothaches, they can become serious. If it occurs, it is best to see emergency dentist Dr. Ashe right away. In the meantime, you can take some pain relievers (e.g., Tylenol or ibuprofen) to temporarily reduce the pain. Finally, make sure to never put aspirin or painkillers against gums near the aching tooth, as this may cause burning to the tissue.
- Broken tooth: Next, broken teeth with small cracks or fractures are difficult to detect due to minimal pain. However, these small cracks and fractures can lead up serious symptoms affecting the nerve. Teeth with large pieces broken off can become very painful due to internal damage or exposed nerves. Contact Dr. Ash’s office right away if you notice any of these symptoms. In addition, ignoring indications of a fracture can allow the condition to worsen severely, even to the point of permanent damage. We recommend you to save any pieces of teeth and gauze the area if there is any bleeding. Lastly, placing a cold compress to the outside will help with swelling or pain.
- Lost crown: Another common dental emergency is a lost crown. If your crown has fallen off, be sure to make an appointment with Dr. Ash as soon as possible. Next, bring the crown with you when you go to your appointment. If possible, try to slip the crown back over the tooth. You can use dental cement or toothpaste to hold the crown in place.
GENERAL RULE OF THUMB: If you have swelling in the mouth or surrounding area, or teeth that are painful, bleeding, and loose, it’s likely a dental emergency.
